Playing time breakdown: Record 111 Tigers mix experience, rest versus Charlotte

by - Staff Writer -

Clemson played 17 more players than had ever suited up and saw the field in a game in school history on Saturday versus Charlotte.

That was 111 out of 113 players dressed out, with receiver Justyn Ross one of those two on the bench to rest up (hip).

The big total has Clemson averaging 81 players on the field this season. More numbers out of Saturday:

Among freshmen, the four-game redshirt limit has been met for several Tigers now, with DT Tyler Davis, CB Andrew Booth, WR Frank Ladson Jr., WR Joseph Ngata, TE Davis Allen, LB Kane Patterson and CB Sheridan Jones. On the cusp of that mark are TE Jaelyn Lay (3), S Joseph Charleston (3), LB Keith Maguire (3), RB Chez Mellusi (3), OL Will Putnam (3), RB Michel Dukes (3), S Lannden Zanders (3), DB Jalyn Phillips (3) and DL Ruke Orhorhoro (3).

Dukes and Ngata became the third and fourth true freshmen to reach the end zone for the Tigers this season on Saturday, joining Ladson and Mellusi. Dukes saw four touches in 11 snaps for 46 yards and the score.

Clemson starting group averaged 25 snaps going back into ACC play this week at North Carolina.
