A future Clemson quarterback continued his pursuit of a former Clemson quarterback in the Georgia high school record books.
Trevor Lawrence topped 300 passing yards (308) in a second-straight game as Cartersville (Ga.) topped Central (Ga.) 55-6. Lawrence fired three touchdown passes by the end of the first quarter and finished with five scores. Lawrence is over 1,800 passing yards (1,846) with 20 touchdowns to one interception in the Hurricanes’ 6-0 campaign. With 138 passing touchdowns and over 12,000 passing yards (12,447) over 3.5 seasons, Lawrence is within striking distance of state records held by Deshaun Watson (13,077 yards and 159 passing touchdowns). Cartersville has four region games left starting with a trip to LaGrange (Ga.) next week before the pursuit of a third-straight state title in the playoffs. Xavier Thomas – 5-star IMG Academy (Fla.) DE; Mike Jones Jr. – 4-star IMG OLB Thomas and Jones Jr. played their part in a dominant effort versus Northwestern (Fla.), delivering a 21-0 shutout. Jones Jr. did a little bit of everything with an interception, a couple sacks and even a fake punt run for a first down. Thomas went into the game with 17 tackles (12 solo), two tackles for loss and a sack through three games. Jones Jr. had posted 13 total stops. B.T. Potter – 3-star South Pointe (SC) kicker
Clemson kicker B.T. Potter continued a strong senior campaign with two field goals and six extra points in a 56-19 win at Ridge View. South Pointe coach Strait Herron said Potter has only improved as a four-year starter for the Stallions.
“He’s kicked in three state championship games and he’s gotten better and better every year,” Herron told Fox 46. “Right now he’s just thunder-foot.”
