Breaking Camp

All indications say that this has been a successful pre-season camp for the Tigers, but some questions still remain with less than two weeks before Clemson heads to Athens.

Here are a few questions that need to be answered on the offensive side of the ball in the next two weeks:

What will Deshawn Watson's role be?

The staff decided back in the spring that Cole StoudtCole Stoudt

would be the starter at quarterback.  What has not been decided is DeShawn Watson's role in the offense.  There is a gap between Stoudt and Watson but not as wide as one might think, considering one is a fifth year senior and the other is a true freshman.  I am told the staff has a lot of confidence in Watson and feels comfortable putting him in in any situation.  Watson's role will be decided partly by Stoudt's success, but he will get his chance no matter who happens to the starter.

What is the pecking order at running back?

Clemson has depth at running back but there has not been a guy that has stepped up and taken the starting spot by the throat.  D.J. HowardD.J. Howard

is the most experienced and should get the start but can he hold off an emerging Zack Brooks?  In my opinion C.J. DavidsonC.J. Davidson

has the most explosiveness and upside.  I think Davidson could emerge as the leading rusher at some point.  Wayne GallmanWayne Gallman

is also in the mix and some feel he is the best long-term answer.  It is nice to have depth at running back but it is difficult to have four backs involved in a game plan.  I think it would be nice to one or two emerge and get a majority of the carries.  Seasons are long and depth is needed at running back but I would like to get one or two backs in a rhythm.  The pecking order and the carries of each back will become clearer in the next two weeks.

have seen time at left guard.  Each has shown signs but no one has taken the job yet.  The next two weeks the staff will focus in on one starter at this spot to solidify the o-line.
