Two Chances

Two Chances
Clemson baseball is enjoying a huge season this year. Monte Lee's Tigers beat South Carolina two out of three games. They have swept Notre Dame, Boston College, Virginia Tech and have won series against Virginia, Georgia Tech, and Wake Forest.

Lee's club has been in the top five for much of the season and has primed itself to receive a national seed if they play well down the stretch.

However, this team is not playing its best baseball at this point and needs to find itself before this weekend.

The good news is the Tigers have put themselves in position where every one of their goals are in front of them. The best news is they have the talent to accomplish any goal.

It all starts this weekend when the Tigers host second-ranked Louisville. The Cardinals are the only team in the country that have already won 40 games this season. Louisville is 42-6 and has won every series they have played this season. They are on an 11-game winning streak. They are 20-4 in the ACC. However, the schedule has not been the toughest. They are 123rd in the country in terms of strength of schedule.

The other piece of good news for the Tigers is they have multiple opportunities to impress the NCAA tournament committee before the selections are made. The ACC tournament could be a huge chance to impress those that will select the national seeds, hosts sites, and remaining seeds.

Clemson's RPI is in the top eight at this point, but the Tigers have slipped. They can solidify a national top eight seed by playing well this weekend and/or in the ACC tournament in two weeks.

The regular season so far has gone as well or better than planned, but all this team has really done is put itself in position to accomplish major goals in post-season play.

Finally, this weekend will be played in another big-time atmosphere. The ACC tournament is in Louisville in two weeks and beating the Cardinals there may be more difficult. Therefore, it is imperative to play well this weekend to get as many wins as possible against a great club at home.
