Clemson. It’s not like the Tigers made a huge jump; in fact, they made no jump at all—still behind FSU and Virginia Tech from the preseason. Clemson did, however, make big strides defensively under new coordinator Brent Venables in a 26-19 victory over Auburn.

The Tigers weren't facing a skilled offense in Auburn, but they did clamp down in the fourth quarter and held onto a lead. That probably wouldn’t have happened by the end of last season.
