Former Clemson linebacker
Shaq Smith has enrolled at Maryland and is with the Terrapins football team now, per Maryland athletics (via the Washington Post).
The destination is of no surprise with Smith being a Baltimore, Maryland native and former high school coach Cory Robinson being hired at Maryland in December. Smith totaled 29 tackles with a sack and interception over 203 snaps in 26 career games at Clemson. He was rated a 5-star prospect out of high school and attended IMG Academy (Fla.) for his senior season. Smith reportedly had a "do not contact" tag on his name in the NCAA transfer portal and no other serious contenders emerged for his services over the next two seasons as a graduate transfer. Maryland went 5-7 last season in a turbulent year where head coach DJ Durkin was fired midway through. Former Maryland assistant - and most recently Alabama offensive coordinator - Mike Locksley was hired in December. Smith will face a former divisional opponent on Sept. 7 at home versus Syracuse. Former Clemson linebacker Shaq Smith is enrolled at Maryland and with the team, per Maryland spokesperson. Smith, a Baltimore native, had 16 tackles last season and was expected to have a larger role for the Tigers this year.
