You raise a valid point. As I understand it, NCAA rules say D1 coaches can’t speak with a player about opportunities until the player has obtained a “permission to contact” from his current school. My guess is this rule is already being fractured and violations will continue to increase. Dabo is a good man, but he’s nobody’s fool. I’m sure Clemson football is monitoring these developments closely, particularly given that our players will continue to be in high demand.

He was originally going to Maryland but Maryland parted ways with Cory Robinson. Cory was passed over when they promoted the assistant player development fella to coach the backs.
He was a lock for Maryland as long as Coach Cory was there. Wish Shaq all the best. He’ll be a good ambassador for Clemson. Ball out and get drafted. Or chase whatever dreams you have!

I heard his old coach was like a father to him. I can understand wanting to play for him but if you are lined up to be a starter at Clemson it's a huge drop in exposure to move to Maryland. Your coach may have given you some pretty bad advice in following him.

Coach V's playbook was a little complicated? I'm sure the Big 10 version is a lot more simple????

Good for Shaq ... IMHO this transfer is more about playing near home than leaving CLEMSON.

Hate to see him go. Loved following his recruitment and thought he handled all of that well.
Went about his business here and was great in the locker room. Hard worker and leader. I think he was in line to get some meaningful snaps and contribute this season.
It really is a head-scratcher though....Maryland? I know he has the personal ties there, but what does he possibly have to gain from leaving the defending national champs to play for: a mediocre program currently in turmoil after firing their coach in light of the rampant toxic culture he fostered? He now has one summer to learn an entirely new system, after having multiple years under his belt here.
Will be following him and hoping he shows out. I just don't see him in a better situation in MD than what he would have had here.
Once a Tiger, always a Tiger!

When I heard he had entered the transfer portal a while back I looked up his on-field stats. Not a standout on the field, but then it's likely he was in mostly 4th quarter. My guess is that though he would have gotten plenty of snaps this year he likely was on the edge between earning a spot or getting beat for a spot by young guns who've been coming in.
At Maryland he'll be back home, and maybe that's something he's been missing for years since he was down in Florida when recruited to the Tigers. Having gone to school far away from home I can understand missing it and taking the easy road to get back. But I think if he had looked more forward he likely would have found better benefit staying at Clemson IF he was willing to compete at the level necessary to earn the position.
GL to the young man. He's still got his whole life ahead of him.

I'm not about starting rumors but Shaq loved Clemson. He was one of the best leaders and mentors on the team. Him leaving so abruptly and with no warning and no reasoning from coaches yet that I have to believe this was something he didn't want. Something happened. I don't know what but this isn't a case of a unhappy player wanting out. There is one other reason and that is something with his family. The only thing about that is if it was something to do with family there would have been some acknowledgement from both the school and the player. We would have gotten thank you post and letters from the school to Shaq and I have to believe Shaq would have poured his heart out with thanks for Clemson. I seriously doubt this has anything to do with his high school coach or tampering. Shaq LOVED Clemson. The only reasoning I can come up with is he was asked to leave and everyone is keeping it on the down low because Dabo is always going to look out for the players first.

Hitting the portal. Neither he, nor Clemson have said one negative word. Clemson is 'family'...Shaq knows that and, for sure Dabo knows that. TigerAiden...you're a smart one! Everyone handled Shaq's 'homecoming' with the utmost class...that should tell ALL everything they need to know.

I’m wondering is it tampering if he has graduated? I wish he would have stayed and been one of the few to hold 3 rings after this year ????

I’m thinking so too. When they show him in all of the Clemson vlogs on YT he’s always has a smile on his face and seemed to love Clemson. Especially weird that he was primed to take over Tre’s spot. Maybe one day we’ll find out what really is the decision behind him transferring.

His loss. This is a decision he will regret. He left a great program for one that could not carry our jock strap.

That just means Shaq knew where he was going before he entered the portal. The do not contact tag just shuts down only what I can imagine being 30-60+ coaches/teams reaching out re-recruiting him.

I'm with you on this one "KillaK". It's like he knew something whether it was depth chart, family concern or whatever and quietly went about his business working with Maryland to get a football scholarship and into their graduate program. Then when it was all set, he went public with his decision. His journey through the transfer portal was one of the quietest for a big school player (with star power) than I can recall. Good luck Shaq!

Could be that he knew he had to carry the load amongst the backers this year and that was too much to handle? Just doesn’t make sense.

Doesn't he have a child in Baltimore? He graduated. Good for you Shaq. Go be a legendary Dad! With a bunch of new young linebackers, someone will step up.
