Finebaum backtracks on Clemson: "I think they have a shot at the championship" |
SEC analyst Paul Finebaum has been on a myriad of ESPN shows downplaying Clemson's achievements on the gridiron this season.
Finebaum is backtracking on some of his negativity and silly talk regarding the Clemson program now that the Tigers are ranked No. 3 in the latest College Football Playoff rankings. "I don't know where in the last couple of weeks that I made the statement that Clemson shouldn't be going (to playoff)," Finebaum said. "I had them ranked No. 3 on my poll. Early on in the season, we were having that conversation Max (Kellerman). To me, Clemson has looked very good. They probably have the best receiving core of this side of Alabama. Their defense is surprisingly good. I say surprisingly good because they lost so much last year." Finebaum thinks Clemson fans believe he has a vendetta against the Tigers. "I know everyone in Clemson wants to think I'm trying to go to the Supreme Court to find a way to keep them out of the playoff," he said. "I really don't care. I think they are going. I think they have a shot at the championship this year. They have won two out of the last four and good for them. They are not really my concern. I was simply making a point earlier for those that missed it, their schedule is pretty vanilla. Their big win is against A&M."
