Clemson defensive tackle commit Demonte Capehart of Hartsville (SC) is transferring and will play his senior season at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla.

Capehart, a 2020 5-star prospect by the 247Sports Composite (6-5, 294) who committed to Clemson in June of 2018, told TigerNet his decision Thursday afternoon.

“I started thinking about it after my junior season. I just feel like it's the best thing for me,” Capehart said.

Capehart then said the Hartsville coaches supported his decision to move.

“They supported me. They didn't put me down or anything,” he said. “They love me and I love them. They supported me in my decision.”

247Sports ranks Capehart as the No. 2 prospect in South Carolina behind uncommitted Tigers target five-star defensive end Jordan Burch, who is ranked No. 1 overall by the industry-generated 247Sports Composite. Capehart is ranked as the No. 2 defensive tackle by the Composite and as the No. 26 overall prospect in his class.

Rivals has Capehart ranked as the No. 3 defensive tackle in the nation, just two spots behind future teammate Bryan Bresee of Damascus, Maryland. Rivals also has Capehart as the No. 2 player in the state of South Carolina.

He said he is looking forward to the competition that IMG will provide, both in games and on the practice field.

“It's going to be just like any other place,” Capehart said. “It won't be anything new. Just better talent. I am looking forward to it.”

Current Clemson defensive end Xavier Thomas transferred from Wilson High in Florence to IMG before his senior season, and Capehart says he will reach out to Thomas with questions if the need arises.

“Maybe or maybe not, if I have any questions I will refer them to him, but other than that, no,” he said.

Capehart was one of the standouts at The Opening Finals in Frisco, TX, last week and said he enjoyed developing a bond with his future teammates.

“It was good to build that bond and make it stronger, a bond we will have in the near future,” Capehart said. “I hung out with Tre Williams the most. He is fun to be around. He is a full-time comedian.”
