Clemson football postseason prediction odds set |
Does Clemson return to the College Football Playoff tier? According to at least one set of odds, it's not in the most likely projections.
A betting site out of North Carolina favors a first Clemson trip to San Diego's Holiday Bowl. "We currently have the San Diego bowl game staple as our top spot for Clemson in 2024, at +300, while Orlando’s Pop-Tarts Bowl comes in at +400 and the Pinstripe and Duke’s Mayo bowls are listed at +600 each," said BetCarolina's Christopher Boan. "Throw in a return to the CFP at +700 and you have the full rundown of the games that we see Swinney’s bunch playing in this bowl season." Percentage-wise, the odds have Clemson with a 25% shot at the Holiday, then 20% for the Pop-Tarts Bowl (formerly the Cheez-It Bowl and even more names before that), 14.3% each for the Pinstripe (NYC) and Mayo (Charlotte) trips, 13.8% for the field/no bowl (last year's Gator Bowl and the Sun Bowl in the mix there) and 12.5% for the Playoff. The difference this year from others is that an ACC title like the 2022 season would clinch a CFP spot. The Top 5 ranked conference champions make the CFP and the Top 4 occupy the Top 4 seeds. 247Sports' latest projection sends Clemson to Orlando to face new Big 12 member Utah. Athlon has the same destination picked and a matchup with Oklahoma State. CFN's spring bowl projections pegged Clemson for a CFP spot and matchup with Oregon in the Peach Bowl quarterfinal. After a No. 9 preseason ranking, Clemson started 4-4 and went on to a 9-4 finish last season. Dabo Swinney's Tigers are seeking a first Playoff bid since 2020, which was the last of six consecutive CFP appearances.
