My fondest memory of Brian will always be from another SPACE event, Shuck & Stomp, last November. He square danced with us. When I was begging everyone to get up and dance, Brian did. I will never forget his big smile as he circled the group. When I think about it now, it makes me smile big just knowing he was there and believed in what we were working toward and that he was willing to square dance when I asked.

Brian was so much more than a football star, but it is fitting he started there because sports, too, brings people together. He brought us together in ways he never realized — in ways we've never been brought together before. He supported Spartanburg — from inner-city youth to square-dancing tree huggers. He knew it would take all of us working together to make Spartanburg a better place. He knew Spartanburg deserved our hard work. I hope we don't forget what he worked so hard for so that Spartanburg could be all that it could be. That's the least we can do to honor his memory.

Life is simply too short to not smile or square dance when you have the opportunity. Brian knew that. I am glad I had the privilege of knowing him.
