Clemson forward RJ Godfrey commits to SEC school in transfer portal |
RJ Godfrey is headed to back to his home state and following in the footsteps of his athlete dad.
Godfrey announced a commitment to Georgia on Wednesday afternoon. Godfrey was the leading scorer off the Tigers' bench this past season, averaging 6.1 points (59% FG) and 3.4 rebounds in 15.6 minutes per game. He made one start over two seasons, scoring 325 points and grabbing 190 rebounds. Godfrey's dad, Randall Godfrey, played football at Georgia before a lengthy NFL career. The younger Godfrey released a thank you to Clemson on his Instagram page on Tuesday. "First and foremost, I want to thank God for blessing me with the opportunity to play basketball at Clemson University," Godfrey said. "The past two years have been an incredible experience in which I was able to fulfill one of my lifelong dreams of playing basketball for this prestigious university. "Thank you to Coach Brownell and staff that have poured into me and developed me during my time at Clemson. I will forever cherish the relationships God blessed me to have with my Clemson teammates. "Clemson fans are the best! It's been an honor to perform in Littlejohn Coliseum. I will never forget our March Madness run to the Elite Eight. Thank you Clemson University!" Godfrey was one of four Tigers from last year's Elite Eight run to enter the transfer portal and a third to announce a new home, following Josh Beadle (BC) and Jack Clark (VCU). Alex Hemenway announced his entry into the transfer portal last week.
