4-star shooting guard A.J. Oliver from Central, South Carolina (D.W. Daniel) committed to Clemson on Tuesday according to his high school coach.
Oliver picked Clemson over his other two finalists - College of Charleston and Texas Tech. He had early offers from Clemson, College of Charleston, FIU, South Carolina-Upstate, Texas Tech and Wofford. He plays for AAU team Upward Stars Southeast (SC). In 2014, he averaged 21.6 points, five rebounds and 1.2 steals a game. He shot 85% on the free throw line and 36% from behind the arc. His shooting ability could fit well in Brownell's motion offense coming off screens and nailing long jumpers. Oliver is an intelligent, thoughtful young man and his mother is Clemson women's basketball coach Audra Smith. He is the first commitment in the 2017 class for Clemson. 4-star SG A.J.
