Oklahoma players would relish shot at "payback" with Clemson |
Clemson smashed Oklahoma 40-6 in the 2014 Russell Athletic Bowl on Dec. 29 and Oklahoma players still have it in the back of their minds.
Senior quarterback Cole Stoudt threw for 319 yards and three touchdowns while Oklahoma quarterback Trevor Knight threw for 103 yards and three interceptions during the contest. Oklahoma's Heisman candidate quarterback Baker Mayfield had the following to say about a potential rematch this postseason. "After watching what happened last year, I would love a shot at them," Mayfield via Tulsa World. "Honestly, we’ll be happy to be in the playoff, and we’ll be ready to play whoever we’re playing," Mayfield said. "But obviously we’ll have a little bigger chip on our shoulder if we get Clemson.” Oklahoma star receiver Sterling Shepard has not forgotten about last season's postgame where the Sooners endured their largest bowl defeat since the 2005 Orange Bowl against USC. "It’s better to forget it,” wide receiver Sterling Shepard said about Clemson's 40-6 rout, "but you keep it in the back of your mind just for motivation." Shepard would love to get some payback to the Tigers for the humiliating loss. "We have one more payback due, and I guess you could say." PredictionMachine.com has a projection of Oklahoma over Clemson in the title matchup with an average score of 31-27.
