Two Tigers ranked among nation's top-10 players |
Athlon ranked the 10 best players in college football and Clemson is the only team with two on the list for 2019.
Tigers quarterback Trevor Lawrence leads the duo at No. 2 overall just behind Alabama's Tua Tagovailoa. "Lawrence and Alabama’s Tua Tagovailoa are really 1A and 1B in this ranking," Athlon analyzed. "As a true freshman in 2018, Lawrence helped to guide Clemson to the national championship by throwing for 3,280 yards and 30 touchdowns to just four picks even though he didn't start the season as the starter. "With a strong supporting cast in place at receiver and a full offseason to work as the starter, Lawrence is primed for even bigger things in 2019." Reigning ACC player of the year Travis Etienne also landed in the top-5 at No. 4 overall. Lawrence picked up national MVP and freshman of the year honors last season with 3,280 passing yards and 30 touchdowns to four interceptions in leading the Tigers to a national title. Etienne led the nation with 24 rushing touchdowns and ranked fourth among eligible rushers in yards per carry (8.13). Lawrence and Etienne are the lone ACC representatives on the list. Lawrence is one of five quarterbacks on it, also including Texas' Sam Ehlinger, Georgia's Jake Fromm and Oregon's Justin Herbert.
