Jimbo Fisher thinks FSU's targeting ejection wasn't intentional |
Florida State sophomore linebacker Emmett Rice was ejected on a clear targeting call after a cheap shot on Clemson cornerback Ryan Carter on Saturday.
Rice not only celebrated over Carter after the hit, who was helped off the field and into the Clemson medical tent shortly after, but he also continued to make light of the hit by celebrating on the sidelines and appearing to mimic a sleeping motion to the crowd as he left the field. Fast forward to Jimbo Fisher's media press conference on Monday, and he stated without laughing that he thought Rice's targeting play wasn't intentional. "We will discuss it with him (targeting). Emmitt had a hit that was, unfortunately, a targeting call," Fisher said. "He hit the guy square. He hit him high. I don't think there was any intent or anything bad. He made a bad hit in a situation where we got to aim a little lower. We will talk to Emmitt about things and how we do things." There is probably only a handful of other people besides Fisher that believes that the cheap shot wasn't deliberate after the celebration on the FSU sideline between Rice and various coaches.
