Fire destroys Clemson's Y barn |
Clemson's historic Y-Barn is no more as a large fire destroyed it at Clemson's Snow Family Outdoor Fitness and Wellness Center on Friday morning.
Firefighters responded to the fire around 7:30 a.m. to a ton of heavy smoke pouring out of the building. Highway 93 between Perimeter Road and U.S. 123 was closed for a few hours while emergency personnel vehicles rushed to the fire. In total, 30 to 40 firefighters were on the scene according to Clemson Fire Chief William Daniel. Clemson University released an alert that no injuries were reported and the fire had been contained around 9:30 a.m. According to Clemson University's Joe Galbraith, the building stored outdoor fitness equipment and water sports equipment for the campus recreation department. The cause of the fire is under investigation and SLED has been called in to help. Officials from SLED and Clemson University on site at what remains of the Y Barn. pic.twitter.com/XH6NqxD3rF
