Camp Insider: Week one ends with two notable visitors

CLEMSON – The first week of Dabo Swinney’s high school camp is in the books after a wet and muggy final period Thursday morning.

There was plenty of star power scattered throughout the three-day session and a few prospects left with offers.

However, let’s start with two big visitors for the final week one session.

Dacari Collins is a 2021 athlete out of Powder Springs (GA) McEachern who already boasts 21 offers, including Alabama, LSU, Auburn, Florida, Florida St., Miami, Nebraska, and Oregon. As we all know, the Clemson coaches like to wait until they’ve spent time with a prospect before dispensing an offer, and wide receivers coach Jeff Scott spent plenty of time working with Collins this morning.

Dacari Collins

Collins has the size (listed at 6-3 ½ but looks a hair taller) you like. He has big, thick, legs that give a hint at power. However, he jumps with ease and runs with a fluid motion, especially for a man his size.

Will a Clemson offer be forthcoming? Have to wait and see but we liked what we saw.

Another visitor was 2022 defensive tackle Travis Shaw (6-5, 290) out of Greensboro (NC) Grimsley. Shaw already has 10 offers – Georgia, UNC, NC State, Ohio St., Oklahoma, Oregon, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and Virginia Tech.

Shaw spent a lot of time with defensive tackles coach Todd Bates. Bates watched every move and struck up a conversation with the young prospect on more than one occasion.

Shaw moves well for such a big man and it looks like he already knows how to use his big hands. He’s another one to watch.

*Wide receiver Tee Higgins was without a walking boot today. We mentioned earlier this week he was in a walking boot after a scope to clean out his ankle. Today he sported a pair of Birkenstocks with no boot.

Now, to recap a busy week:

*Starting with the 2020 class, wide receiver’s coach Jeff Scott quickly dispensed an offer to Clearwater (FL) International receiver Ajou Ajou. The 6-3, 210 pounder easily stood out in drills during the Tuesday sessions and added Clemson to a list of offers that includes Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Florida St., Penn St., Tennessee, Texas A&M and a bevy of others.

*Tight ends coach Danny Pearman hosted several 2020 tight end prospects but it was Tallahassee (FL) Lincoln prospect Sage Ennis who earned an offer. Ennis is 6-4 and weighs 220 pounds and already claims an offer from the hometown Seminoles.

Ennis totaled 620 receiving yards with 17 total touchdowns as a junior.

*Looking ahead to 2021, Clemson dispensed offers to a pair of defenders in defensive back Kevin Knowles out of McArthur (FL) and the No. 2 overall athlete in Xavian Sorey out of Graceville (FL).

Knowles tallied 29 stops with two interceptions and three pass breakups as a sophomore. He also holds offers from NC State, Pitt, Maryland, Syracuse, Louisville, Rutgers and Wake Forest among others.

Sorey came into the trip already holding offers from Alabama, Florida State, Auburn, Florida and Miami and depending on the school is being recruited as either a linebacker or running back.
