Swinney jokes about Jadeveon Clowney: "Finally got him to Clemson" |
A former Gamecocks star was back in Clemson.
Carolina Panthers veteran defensive lineman Jadeveon Clowney returned to Clemson's Memorial Stadium this week to participate in a team scrimmage and Fan Day. It was the 30th anniversary of the Panthers playing home games at Clemson during their inaugural NFL season. Clowney was asked about his past experiences at Clemson as he won three games (2011-2013) against the Tigers as a member of the in-state rival South Carolina Gamecocks. “It’s always fun when you win,” Clowney said. "I had no problem coming back because I knew what happened here when I was here, so it’s all good. Plenty of love in the building.” Clowney was the No. 1 overall recruit in 2011, so it was a big recruiting battle that South Carolina won back in the day. “I got to see Clowney out there," Swinney said. "I had a little fun with him. Finally got him to Clemson. Doggone it. I finally got him here, practicing in the indoor (facility).” Despite the heated college rivalry, Clowney told the media that he has "big love" for Swinney and that Clemson has a great recruiting setup.
