Clemson football is ACC's clear leader, Top 5 nationally in roster talent |
Once again, Clemson enters the season with the most talented roster in the ACC and is ranked in the Top 5 nationally.
247Sports released its 2024 Team Talent Composite on Thursday, where Clemson is fifth overall in total points (924.63) and sixth in average rating per player (90.89). The four ahead in overall points are Alabama (1,018.28), Georgia (1,006.89), Ohio State (998.62), and Texas (953.95). The other that gets Clemson on average is Notre Dame (91.14). By the metric, Clemson has been regarded as a Top 5 most-talented team in college football each season since 2020. "Often the source of criticism in a world of armchair experts, the Tigers remain one of the most talented programs in the country," said 247Sports' Chris Hummer. "Whether that will translate to W's on Saturdays remains to be seen. A model of consistency in the 247Sports Team Talent Composite era, Dabo Swinney's Tigers have reached the College Football Playoffs six times in the last nine years. The only program with more appearances in that same span? Alabama. Pretty darn good... "With one of the best defensive fronts in the country returning to lead the charge in 2024, Week 1 against Georgia will likely serve as an appropriate barometer for if Dabo's roster building philosophy is built to withstand the brutality of new age college football." The Tigers did drop by four blue-chip prospects overall year-to-year, from 56 to 52. The next-best in the ACC is Florida State at No. 13 overall, with 44 blue-chip prospects, one spot ahead of Miami -- and they have 39 blue-chippers. The next conference foe is a spot below South Carolina, with North Carolina at No. 22.
