Phoenix Suns Sign Sharrod Ford

The Phoenix Suns announced today that they have signed rookie forward Sharrod Ford. To make room for Ford on the roster, the Suns waived rookie forward Lucas Tischer.

Originally signed by the San Antonio Spurs on September 29, 2005, Ford averaged 4.9 points, 2.5 rebounds and 1.1 blocks over 12.5 minutes in eight preseason games before he was released on Oct. 26.

The 6-9, 225-pound forward played four collegiate seasons at Clemson (2001-05). In his junior and senior seasons at Clemson, Ford became the first Clemson player to the lead the Tigers in scoring and rebounding in consecutive seasons since Horace Grant (1985-86, 1986-87). The 23-year-old also earned Third Team All-ACC honors at Clemson after averaging 14.9 points and 8.2 rebounds during his senior season.

Tischer, who signed with Phoenix on Sept. 12, averaged 1.3 points in three preseason games with the Suns.

Phoenix will play at the Los Angeles Lakers Thursday night in a game that will be televised on TNT.

Ford is the third former Clemson player on an NBA roster this year. Greg Buckner is with the Denver Nuggets and Dale Davis is with the Detroit Pistons.
