Latest Clemson NCAA Tournament projections |
Clemson baseball is in good standing going into the NCAA Tournament announcement next week.
The Tigers (41-14) wrapped their tourney resume this week by going 1-1 in the ACC Baseball Championship, falling by a run to Miami and coming back to win by a run over Louisville (both 8-7 scores). Clemson will officially find out its regional host status on Sunday evening (approx. 8:30 p.m. EDT), and then the 16 national seeds and the 64-team field will be announced in Monday's NCAAs unveiling (noon/ESPN2). Both D1Baseball and Baseball America maintained their projection of a No. 6 National Seed for the Tigers, which would ensure a home path in the first two rounds of the tournament. D1Baseball is holding fast to its rivalry weekend prediction of South Carolina as a Clemson regional 2-seed, along with a 3-seed in College of Charleston and a 4-seed Samford. It is paired for the Super Regional round with NC State's regional, which features two teams to top Clemson in a home regional last decade with Vanderbilt and UConn. Baseball America has Big 12-exiting Texas in Clemson's projected regional, along with James Madison and Florida A&M. The Super Regional pairing is also ACC-themed with Virginia. Clemson is No. 7 in the RPI rankings and No. 16 in strength of schedule going into Saturday's action.
