NCAA makes Clemson Regional host announcement |
Clemson baseball is hosting an NCAA Tournament regional for the 18th time in its history, the NCAA announced -- as expected -- on Sunday evening.
Now the Tigers’ attention turns to what is expected to be a Top-8 National Seed placement on Monday at noon EDT (ESPN2), which would allow Erik Bakich’s boys to host the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament. D1Baseball’s projection on Sunday morning pegged the Tigers (41-14) as a No. 6 national seed with San Diego, Florida and Bryant in the field as well, with Oklahoma State’s Stillwater Regional the pairing for the Super Regional round. Baseball America also called for a No. 6 spot with San Diego, James Madison and Sacred Heart and also a Supers pairing with Stillwater. Clemson entered Sunday’s action at No. 7 in the RPI and KPI rankings and No. 16 in strength of schedule. Clemson looks to advance out of a regional for the first time since 2010, which was also the Tigers’ last College World Series bid. First, Clemson is seeking to make even a regional final for the first time since 2018 in the double-elimination format. Sunday’s announcement makes a 46th NCAA Tournament appearance official for the Tigers. Clemson is coming off of a sweep of Boston College to close the regular season and then a 1-1 record in the ACC Baseball Championship with two 8-7 results, with one a loss to 11-seed Miami in the Pool B championship and the other a win over 7-seed Louisville. The 16 NCAA regional hosts are Tennessee, Oklahoma State, NC State, East Carolina, Kentucky, Arkansas, Oregon State, Oklahoma, UNC, Virginia, Georgia, UC-Santa Barbara, Clemson, Florida State, Arizona and Texas A&M.
