Clemson moves up in Top 10 of national outlet's preseason ranking |
We're still over three months to college football action, but one national outlet is even a little higher on Clemson's Tigers.
USA TODAY's Re-Rank of all 134 FBS teams slotted Clemson up a spot to No. 9 from its post-spring Top 25. Paul Myerberg's complete Top 10 is Georgia, Ohio State, Texas, Oregon, Notre Dame, LSU, Alabama, Florida State, Clemson and Penn State. In that scenario, Clemson would make the expanded CFP as an at-large and travel for a first-round matchup: Georgia, Ohio State, Florida State and Utah with byes; then 5. Texas v. 12. Liberty, 6. Oregon v. 11. Penn State, 7. Notre Dame v. 10. Clemson, 8. LSU v. 9. Alabama. "The Tigers are not a team that uses the portal, and this offseason was no exception," the outlet wrote in early May. "It's hoped that the second year of the relationship between QB Cade Klubnik and offensive coordinator Garrett Riley bears more fruit after an up-and-down season in 2023. Klubnik has all the tools to lead and there are some young receivers looking to push for time. The pieces for an outstanding defense are in place. DB R.J. Mickens and two very promising DLs in TJ Parker and Peter Woods are potential stalwarts." The next-best from the ACC are Louisville (16), Virginia Tech (20), NC State (22), Miami (24) and North Carolina (30).
