MLB draft: Clemson senior drafted by Cubs

Clemson senior Grayson Byrd was selected Wednesday in the 24th round by the Chicago Cubs with the 732nd overall pick.

Byrd was listed an infielder by the Cubs after playing outfield and infield with the Tigers this year as a first-team All-ACC and third-team All-America honoree.

Byrd started his career with LSU and began playing with Clemson in 2017. He tallied career-bests in average (.316), hits 79), runs (49), doubles (16), triples (2), home runs (16), RBIs (59), total bases (147), on-base percentage (.394) and slugging percentage (.588) as a senior.

Over four years, Byrd totaled 26 home runs, 114 RBIs and 174 hits in college.

He was the 62nd All-American in Clemson history this season.
