TE Spring Outlook

Like quarterback and running back, Clemson has to replace a great tight end with little experience returning. Garrett Williams may be the most complete option with the best combination of blocker and receiver. He has played due to his toughness and athletic ability. I would love to see him step up and be the next every down tight end at Clemson.

Milan Richard is perhaps the best looking physical specimen on campus. He enters his junior season with a great opportunity. The staff needs him to take a big step and be the player he projects to be this spring.

Cannon Smith is a massive tight end that has been counted on as a blocker to this point. This is another big spring for him in his attempt to prove himself as a reliable option for the coaching staff.

D.J. Greenlee surprised some last year when he emerged as a good blocker as a tight end. Like the others here, Greenlee has a chance to see his snaps increase so this spring will be crucial for him.

Shadell Bell started as a wide out but made the move to tight end last year, and it was nice to see Dabo mention him many times for his work ethic and toughness. He is still undersized but might be the best receiver in the group. I am very interested to see how much bigger he will be this fall and how his overall game progresses.

J. C. Chalk red-shirted last year as he needed to add size and strength. The staff thinks he has a chance to be a good one but is he ready at this stage? As is the case with those mentioned above, the spring camp will prove crucial for his future.

So Clemson has six candidates at tight end, but do any of those guys have the complete skill set to take a majority of snaps at the position?

Jordan Leggett was a key part of the offense in the last three years and his graduation leaves a huge hole. This spring will be important to decide on the personnel, but another question is how will the tight ends be used in the offense. Big questions will hopefully get answered at is spot this spring.
