Trophies that is, for: finishing in 2023, 2024 & yesterday in 2025..a tough & dangerous 100 mile grind at Mt Mitchell which is the highest peak East of the Rockies where a runner will travel 48,000 total feet of combined elevation & descent.

Plus a neat custom-made wooden plaque is shown in the shape of the state of N.C. with an image of a Hellbender (aka: Salamander) awarded him in 2023 for a heroic finish just 17 minutes from the 40 Hour disqualification time..

after he had gotten iLL during the last stretch of miles, was in terrible stomach pain from too much electrolytes in his water, was hallucinating a bit after no real rest or sleep in 39 hours..

And he had laid down on the path to rest nearly dozing off when his pacer buddy rallied him to get up to continue the remaining miles thus he crossed the finish line dead last, but a finisher showing the ole Tiger grit.

Even his two daughters knew he would finish no matter what..while bretfsu and other TigerNetters including me were not so sure since we could see him as a motionless dot on the trail via our cell phone screens as we tracked him..while the disqualifying clock was ticking, ticking.

But all of a sudden the dot of a runner was moving, ever so slowly..and we TigerNetters were ecstatic and rapidly posted “he’s moving” and when BabyBulb crossed the finish line with only 17 minutes before disqualification..

we all at TigerNet who had tracked him shouted to ourselves hundreds of miles apart on our individual electronic devices as if we Tigers had helped push another Tiger to succeed.

Never been more proud of my Clemson grad Son; still a very emotional memory even 2 years later!

Go TiGERS..continue to Rock!

post made (6100 views) concerning JOE21 and his declining health almost 4 years ago.

What a special man he was and so glad he graciously saw me on a Monday morn at age 97 along with Daughter Linda when we chatted incessantly in the LR and then they cordially invited me for lunch in Pendleton where he unsurprisingly said a prayer..

and he still had two more years to be the PAW Ambassador, drive his buddy to Greenville for meetings, post some of his best stories & advice and finished his book.

He had invited me to his huge 100th celebration at the Madden Center via a personal email and when I learned that he had passed about 3 weeks before his 100th it was like a rock had slammed me and I wept.

Bill,
Baby Bulb has to be in the Top 5-10% of “Oldest Finishers” to complete this Race in under 40 Hours!!!! Tremendous Accomplishment!!!!!!

Rooting for him and cheering him on from my desk and computer in central Florida, about 700 miles away.

I gotta admit, this year was a lot less stressful (after they got his tracker fixed and we could follow him in real time on Saturday.)

As a guy who - when I was 20 years younger than him, ran a marathon and also did a half-ironman triathlon, I know there is now way I would ever attempt what he has done three times now. I have hiked mountain trails, probably a few miles of the same trails he has run on.

He has my deepest respect. You have every reason to brag on him.
