Ohio State Offense

Over the next week or so we will look at the matchup with Fiesta Bowl opponent Ohio State. Today we begin by looking at the Buckeyes' offense.

Ohio State is ninth in the country in scoring offense 42.7 points per game. The Buckeyes are 21st in the country in total offense with 479 yards per game. They are ninth in the country in rushing offense with 258 yards per game and 76th in the country in passing offense with 221 yards per game.

Quarterback

J.T. Barrett is a red-shirt junior who was named first-team All-Big Ten this season. He has been part of some huge wins in his three years. This season he is 214 of 346 for 2,428 yards with 24 touchdowns and five interceptions. Barrett has more carries than any other Buckeye. On the ground, he has 194 carries for 847 yards and nine scores.

Backup Joe Burrow is a 6-3, 218-pound freshman who has played little this season. He is 22 of 28 for 226 yards with two scores and no interceptions. He also has 12 carries for 58 yards and a touchdown.

Running Back

Mike Weber is a red-shirt freshman who as named second-team All-Big Ten this season. The 222-pounder lead the Bucks with 1,072 yards on 177 carries and nine touchdowns

Curtis Samuel is the most versatile player in their offense. The junior was named first-team All-American by the AP and Sporting News. He was a first-team All-Big Ten as well. This season he has 91 carries for 704 yards and eight touchdowns. Samuel is the leading receiver with 65 receptions for 822 yards and seven scores.

Wide Receiver

The offense revolves around Barrett's dual-threat abilities, the running game with Barrett, Weber and Samuel and the receiving of Samuel. The wide outs are not the strength of this offense. Noah Brown has 30 receptions for 385 yards and seven touchdowns. K.J. Hill 17 receptions for 254 yards and one touchdown. Donte Wilson 27 catches for 352 yards and five scores.

Tight End

Marcus Baugh is used at times in the passing game. The sophomore has 24 catches for 269 yards and two scores.

Offensive Line

The offensive line has received mixed reviews this year. Center Pat Elflein won the Remington Award for the nation's best center. He is a first-team All-American and first-team All-Big Ten. Right guard Billy Price is a second-team All-American according to the AP and Jamarco Jones is a second-team All-Big Ten selection. However, right tackle Isaiah Prince has had some issues, and the Buckeyes have struggled up front at times.

In summary, Clemson would love to contain Ohio State's powerful running game and limit the big plays in the play-action passing game. Meanwhile, the Buckeyes would love to be more balanced and less predictable when on offense.
