Offensive Observations

We have been able to watch all of the first two practices and have the following thoughts on what we have seen from the offense:

Quarterbacks

It's been nice to see Deshaun WatsonDeshaun Watson

back out there at full strength. He is an amazing athlete and might be the best quarterback in the country. With that said, Watson has shown a slight rust in each of the first two days. Maybe it's our high level of expectations. Whenever he misses a throw, we are shocked. It's not like he has been off by a lot, and we have to remember he hasn't been in an official practice since November. Maybe we should have expected some rust, but hey, it's Deshaun Watson, a guy that we get shocked over a bad throw.

The back-ups have had ups and downs. Nick SchuesslerNick Schuessler

has had some turnover issues. I thought he looked great in the spring, but the first two practices have reiterated the importance of keeping Watson healthy.

is making strides. Often he looks more comfortable in the passing game. Sometimes he rips off a beautiful pass. However, there is inconsistency. Occasionally, he makes a big mistake.

broke a bone in his foot and is out until at least mid-September.

Running Backs

It's hard to evaluate running backs in shorts, but Wayne GallmanWayne Gallman

picked up where he left off in the spring. Gallman created separation late last year and in the spring. To me, he looks like the best option at running back.

has been running with the second team. He looked good Tuesday but was a little gimpy Wednesday.

is coming off a bad injury for his position. An Achilles is difficult to overcome, but Dye looks much better than a season ago. He is the most natural running back in my opinion. He has the best vision and best forward lean, but can he stay healthy and stay at full speed?

CJ Davidson might be the most athletic back if he can hold onto the football.

has lost weight and looks good, but he is still not 100% coming off of his knee surgery.

CJ Fuller has looked good in the first two days. I think he is the kind of back that will look better with pads because he excels between the tackles.

Wide Receivers

This is the best unit on the team. Mike WilliamsMike Williams

has a chance to continue to be the big playmaker on deep balls. I would be surprised if he doesn't have a huge year if Watson stays healthy.

looks healthy for the first time in years and could be a big contributor.

Ray Ray McCloud has had two very strong days. He looks smooth entering and exiting cuts. He accelerates coming out of his cuts. I think he can be a terrific punt returner. I also see the staff using him in a lot of different ways this season. McCloud is a five star without a doubt.

has had ups and downs. Tuesday was good, but Wednesday was much better. He is taller than I thought. He also has a special skill set. Wednesday he made one of the finest catches you will see. It was exactly like A.J. Green's famous one-hand catch.

Germone Hooper looks great about 70% of the time. The other 30% has been the issue for a couple of seasons.

Offensive Line
