4-star 2018 shooting guard John Newman from Greensboro, NC (Greensboro Day) committed to Clemson over Virginia and Wake Forest on Friday night on his Instagram account.
Brownell and Co. impressed Newman during his official visit earlier in the week at Tigertown. Newman had offers from Boston College, Charlotte, Clemson, Cincinnati, Georgia Tech, James Madison, Old Dominion, Providence, Virginia, and Wake Forest. He is a big-time player with a high motor that has tremendous on-ball pressure defensively and could be a guy to guard the team's best player in a few years. On offense, he is a fluid athlete that plays above the rim with a nice mid-range game. He averaged 11.8 points per game last season. Newman is the first commitment for the Tigers in 2018.
