The New Orleans Saints announced that they have released former Clemson linebacker
Stephone Anthony. In corresponding moves, the Saints added running back Zach Zenner and tight end Brian Parker (open roster spot with PJ Williams' suspension).
There are reports that Anthony could be brought back to the Saints at some point this season, but the team needed a running back currently with Alvin Kamara's ankle injury. Anthony was selected with the Saints' 31st pick in the first round of the 2015 NFL draft and totaled 112 stops with a sack and interception in his rookie season. Injury hampered his final two seasons with New Orleans before being traded to the Miami Dolphins in 2017. He saw action in 24 games with the Dolphins over two seasons before short stints with the Atlanta Falcons and New York Jets earlier this year. Anthony was a 5-star prospect out of high school who earned first-team All-ACC honors as a senior at Clemson, totaling a team-best 90 stops, 10.5 for loss, with 2.5 sacks, 11 QB pressures, four pass breakups, and an interception.
