Swinney on Xavier Thomas' progress: "He's taking off like a rocket ship" |
Clemson football coach
Dabo Swinney is known to be a great talent evaluator with regards to player evalution and recruiting. However, it's not rocket science to understand that true freshman speed rusher
Xavier Thomas has a very bright future with the Clemson program.
Swinney during his Tuesday press conference bragged on Thomas' football progress. "He is taking off like a rocket ship," Swinney said. "I thought we probably did a poor job of rotating other guys last weekend. He played a lot but he needs more reps because I thought Cle and Austin got a little tired. They played sixty snaps or more. I felt like it was a couple of plays where I saw a little fatigue. That's a lot of snaps especially when you are playing an uptempo team running all over the place. I'm glad we were able to get him in the game." Swinney thinks that Thomas will play more and more as the season moves forward. "That kid is not a complete player yet by any stretch of the imagination but he plays full speed and his first step is special," he said. "He's 260 pounds. He's a good tackler and he knows how to go get the quarterback so I think you will continue to see his opportunity increase because he has earned it and we are starting to trust him more."
