Each Friday I publish your comments and answer your questions. To submit a comment or questions, please email me at [email protected] Hey Mickey, I did enjoy you SC review article. Another example of good insight into the rivalry. I was intrigued by your statement that Dabo was only the 4th ACC coach with 100 wins. I was wondering who the other three were. Bill Dooley, Frank Beamer, Frank Howard, and Bobby Bowden had over 100 wins, Bobby Ross had over 100, but 24 were at the Citadel, Dick Sheridan had over 100 with over half at Furman, I'm sure I missed someone. Just wondering how you came up with Dabo being the 4th. Hope you have a good day and thanks for your work!

You were on the right track. The key to this stat is wins as a coach in the ACC. Bobby Bowden won 173 at FSU when in the Noles were in the ACC, George Welsh won 136 at Virginia, Frank Beamer won 113 at Virginia Tech while they were in the ACC and now Dabo has won 100. Frank Howard’s first 13 years at Clemson were before the Tigers were in the ACC. Howard won 96 games at Clemson while in the ACC. Hope this helps.
Mickey, we are truly blessed. The things we gripe about are things other teams wish they could gripe about. We are talking tweaks while others are consumed by wholesale changes. Yes, we are blessed to have Dabo, but you must look beyond the coach. If Terry Don hadn’t had the courage to tune out a disgruntled fan base, we may not be where we are today. If Dan didn’t see the vision for Clemson, we might be where we are today. Yes, timing was important, things had to happen and our leadership needed patience. It would have been easy after the West Virginia game (yes, they are still scoring on us) to fold the tents and fire the coach, but leadership remained leaders. We are blessed to have leaders and not followers.
I agree with your thoughts. One man that deserves a lot of credit is the former chairman of the board of trustees David Wilkins. Mr. Wilkins leadership was a huge key as well. There is no coincidence that the program took off after he came into the leadership position.
And yes, we are so blessed right now. This is a dream, but please don’t wake me up anytime soon.
