ENGLEWOOD, Colo. - The Denver Broncos on Wednesday signed

free-agent defensive end Khaleed (kuh-LEED) Vaughn to a future

contract, Head Coach Mike Shanahan announced. Vaughn officially will

be added to the Broncos' roster at the end of the 2005 NFL season in

February.

Vaughn (6-foot-4, 270 pounds) is a second-year player who spent

the 2005 season on Carolina's practice squad after the club signed

him Sept. 14. The 24-year-old joined the Panthers after Atlanta

waived him at the end of its training camp on Sept. 3.

As a rookie in 2004, Vaughn made three tackles in three

regular-season games (0 starts) with the Falcons and added two stops

for Atlanta as a reserve in the NFC Championship Game at Philadelphia

(1/23/05). He joined the Falcons on Oct. 20, 2004, from the practice

squad of the New York Giants, who signed him as an undrafted free

agent on April 30, 2004.

Vaughn was a three-year starter at Clemson University,

appearing in 49 career games (37 starts) and twice earning first-team

Academic All-Atlantic Coast Conference recognition for the Tigers. He

finished his collegiate career with 194 tackles, 11 sacks, six pass

breakups, two forced fumbles and one interception.

A native of Atlanta, Vaughn led North Atlanta High School in

tackles as a senior with 101 and posted eight sacks while adding 28

receptions for 247 yards as a tight end that year. He also averaged a

double-double (15 points and 10 rebounds) in four seasons as the

starting center for the school's basketball team.

Khaleed Vaughn was born May 20, 1981, in Atlanta.
