5-star 2018 Clemson commit Trevor Lawrence was named the AJC's all-classification player of the year for 2016 on Thursday.
Lawrence is rated the #1 overall player for the 2018 class by three different recruiting services and is the highest rank commit in Clemson history. The 6-foot-6, 200-pound signal-caller won his second straight football title with Cartersville, GA recently. As a junior, he completed 250 out of 406 passes for 3,904 yards and 51 touchdowns with only nine interceptions this season. He only needs 2,477 yards and 40 touchdowns to break Deshaun Watson's Georgia career high school records. He is a three-year starter in high school that has lost only two games (42-2) during that span and has thrown for more than 10,000 yards and 118 touchdowns. TigerNet was on hand for the 2016 Dabo Swinney camp and was impressed by Lawrence's passing accuracy and overall athleticism. As a sophomore, he completed 233 out of 364 passes for 3655 yards with 43 touchdowns and only four interceptions. In 2014, he passed for 3,042 yards with 26 touchdowns to lead Cartersville to the AAAA semifinals. In the 8th grade, he passed for 1173 yards with 18 passing touchdowns and had 333 rushing yards and nine rushing touchdowns. He had early national offers from Alabama, California, Cincinnati, Clemson, Colorado State, Duke, Florida, Georgia, Houston, LSU, Miami, Michigan, Mississippi, Mississippi State, Missouri, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Southern Miss, Tennessee, UCF, Vanderbilt, Virginia Tech and others. His first offer was from Colorado State while Clemson offered on 6/9/15.
