Clemson 2016 wide receiver commit Cornell Powell is having a tremendous season for JH Rose (9-2) and broke the all-time North Carolina high school record for career receptions on Friday in a 54-16 playoff victory over Overhills.

TigerNet.com spoke with Powell about breaking the state record and he wanted to give thanks to others that have helped in be in the spotlight.

"It's an honor honestly," Powell said. "First I gotta give thanks to God and then my coaches and the quarterbacks who I had over my four years but I'm not done yet and I want every receiving record and that championship ring."

Powell had five receptions for 84 yards and two touchdowns, 72 kickoff return yards and 70 punt return yards and a touchdown against Overhills.

He has 1276 receiving yards with 20 touchdowns, 617 kickoff return yards, 250 punt return yards and 211 rushing yards on the season.

Powell thought that the Clemson football team was going to have a great season and the #1 ranking did not surprise him at all.

"I mean I expected nothing less and every week they're making my decision look 100% better."

He is excited for his upcoming future at Clemson as a student-athlete. "I'm ready to get up there and work! I'm excited about coming."
