Hunter has offers from Alabama, Clemson, Colorado State, Georgia, Florida State, Illinois, Indiana, Louisville, LSU, Miami, Mississippi, Nebraska, North Carolina, Tennessee, UCLA, Virginia Tech and others. He is a consensus 4-star recruit by all the major recruiting services. As a sophomore, he had 89 tackles, ten tackles for loss, eight sacks, one interception and two fumble recoveries. Both of his parents went to Georgia as his dad played football, and his mother played basketball.
