Anniversary of "The Catch" by Dwight Clark

by - Assoc. Editor -

This is the 33rd year anniversary of former Clemson wide receiver Dwight Clark scoring on "The Catch" from a 6-yard pass by Joe Montana as the 49ers defeated the Cowboys 28-27 in the NFC championship.

According to Clark, Ed "Two Tall" Jones reacted to the play by stating "You just beat America's Team" to Montana after the touchdown pass, to which Montana replied to Jones, "Well, you can sit at home with the rest of America and watch the Super Bowl."

The 49ers went on to beat the Bengals 26-21 in Super Bowl XVI.
