Mackensie Alexander could miss title game |
Clemson defensive back standout
Mackensie Alexander is hobbled by a hamstring issue and could have to sit out tonight's National Championship game against Alabama.
There are conflicting reports that Alexander suffered the injury in the Orange Bowl last month and it flared up again this morning or this is an entirely new hamstring injury suffered this morning. Alexander texted ESPN's Marty Smith confirming the injury. Just got a text message from Mackensie Alexander. Confirms hamstring issue. Team will evaluate him during warmups to determine effectiveness With Alexander, Clemson is the number two defense in the country in passes completed holding opponents to 47.6 completion percentage. In 638 snaps this season, QBs completed 11 passes vs. Alexander. Alexander has not publicly decided if he is going to jump to the NFL for the 2016 NFL draft. Clemson All-American defensive end Shaq Lawson is also listed as a game-time decision for the Tigers but Swinney indicated earlier in the week that he thought he would play. Clemson CB Mackensie Alexander is a game-time decision with a hamstring injury. Call will be made based on warmups. pic.twitter.com/vqa98Vr9t1 IMO Mackensie Alexander hampered a bigger #Clemson concern than Shaq Lawson.
