K.J. McDaniels a no show for 76ers camp |
Former Clemson standout K.J. McDaniels has not finalized his rookie contract and did not report to 76ers training camp at Richard Stockton College on Tuesday.
The Sixers expect him to sign it soon and vie for a starting position. "It's just a situation that comes up, and [general manager] Sam [Hinkie] is handling it," coach Brett Brown said to the media Monday. "I trust Sam will handle it the way we need to as a club. We do miss K.J. I look forward with him getting with us and me." McDaniels was selected by the 76ers with the 32nd overall pick (2nd pick in RD 2) but the team had him much higher on their draft board. He left his Rival Sports Group agency in August to join Priority Sports. He finished his junior season at Clemson with first-team All-ACC honors and was also named ACC Defensive Player of the Year. His stats were 17.1 points, 7.1 rebounds and 2.8 blocks per game. Update: McDaniels has signed a 1-year contract with the 76ers on Wednesday. The Sixer start their preseason slate of games on October 6th. #Sixers rookie KJ McDaniels isn't here because his contract 'hasn't been executed.' Has chance to start.
