5-star guard planning visit to Clemson

by -

Five-star 2019 point guard prospect Josiah James told 247Sports this week that he will make a stop at two in-state contenders before a fall decision.

James recently narrowed his top schools to nine, with Clemson and South Carolina in the mix with Duke, Michigan State, Arizona, Florida State, Kansas, Tennessee and Virginia.

James, who is rated the No. 1 point guard nationally by 247Sports, said visits to Clemson and South Carolina will happen and staying in-state is something on his mind.

"Distance doesn’t really matter to me, but playing for an in-state school would mean a lot to me," James told 247Sports. "Playing close to home my family would get to see me and it’s only an hour and a half to South Carolina and three and a half hours to Clemson. I know that my fanbase will follow me wherever I go, but it really would mean a lot to stay at home, but that’s not going to be the deciding factor."

James says Clemson coach Brad Brownell has a consistent message to him.

"To come in, be a leader for their team," James said. "They feel like I can handle the ball in the ACC and lead them to a ACC Championship and into the NCAA Tournament."
