Green Is A Proven Winner |
Carey Green is one of the hottest names in women's basketball. Much like Bruce Pearl used Wisconsin-Milwaukee' cinderella run to land the Tennessee job on the men side, Green may use Liberty's run to propel himself back to Clemson. Green has been rumored to be a candidate, and could be a friendly hire, considering he was a part of Jim Davis' two ACC tournament championship teams.
Before Liberty, Green spent 12 years in the ACC at Clemson. While at Clemson, they captured two ACC Tournament Championships while appearing in five championship games. During this period, Clemson recorded 22 wins per year, 45 wins over Top 25 programs, and was ranked in the Top 25 for 10 seasons. The Tigers reached eleven NCAA Tournaments, four "Sweet 16" appearances, and fell one game short of the "Final 4" when they lost to Connecticut in the "Elite 8". Green has had a tremendous run the last six years at Liberty. The Lady Flames have captured six consecutive Big South Conference Championships and advanced to the NCAA Division I Tournament six consecutive years. Only three other universities can match that current success. Prior to his days at Clemson, Green was the head men's and women's basketball coach at Jackson State Community College in Jackson, Tenn. from 1982-84. In 1986, he was named the Tennessee Junior College Athletic Association Coach of the Year. For two seasons from 1982 to 1984, Green served as the head women's basketball coach and school principal at Rockwood High School after serving as the head men's basketball coach as Coalfield High School the season before.
