Personally sorry that Streeter did not get the job done.
Always wanted to see a Clemson player and Grad excell.
He gets paid over $2 Million for his job search!

Good luck and find the right position for your future.

Now Dabo and Riley have to put the explosiveness back in the Tiger Offense.
This team is Solid, and 2023 should be a great year! I can’t wait!

Go Tigers!

Do you know how many sleepless nights Dabo must have had over having to make this decision. I know it hurt him to do this, I love Streeter was a Clemson man through and through but the decision was up to Dabo based on how he felt the program was going. We saw this same thing when WV beat us so badly, even though we had numerous trips to the red zones against Tenn. we never got the production we needed. I wonder how DJ feels now that he has left and seeing the OC Dabo is bringing in. I bet he feels disappointed based on what we know about Riley. I know Walt Deptula was ecstatic when he heard it. My heart goes out to Streeter and his family and I want to thank him for what he has done as a Clemson Tiger. May God go with this family.

I guess you don’t remember him playing with a Broken Collar bone or getting driven into the dirt behind a woeful Oline time after time when he played here.

He is probably one of the toughest players we ever had.

IMO, Woody Dantzler and Tajh Boyd are the two toughest QB's that's played at Clemson since the 60's....

That is very harsh. Streeter is a Clemson guy. I knew a change had to be made, but feel for Streeter.

But if we are holding him accountable what about Grisham and Austin. Their position groups were not good this year. CJ needs to also land some big recruits.

I don't know if that's who we need, but I will take Jeff over Streeter any time. But I'm hoping that Dabo will hire a Coordinator that has a high octane offense that has been proving to be the future of college FB offenses!!! That's what I believe our Clemson Tiger FB team deserves, and I hope that if that's the way that Dabo goes, that whoever that may be, that he has no interest in being a HC never-ever. Clemson has shown that they can afford top coordinators. Someone like that would also keep us winning while Goodwin grows into his own, and hopefully in time, he will be as good or better than BV. Clemson deserves that also IMHO, and that would help us with getting and keeping top recruits without having the huge NIL gift, our gift can be top coaching for those that are serious about an NFL future!!!

NO!! Scott had tremendous talent to work with when he was here. We don't even know how good he was. We need a coordinator with a proven track record at multiple stops. Someone who has had success at schools with not so great talent. A true schemer of offense. No more buddies!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: RUN IT BACK***

Jan 12, 2023, 5:43 PM

Yes, a person that can scheme his own offense with plays that will work even when we're playing against other good teams, and someone that knows the art of keeping his play calls confusing for other HC's and DC's. Play calls that defenses aren't daring us to run bc they are ready for it!!!

Just speaking from personal work experience (nothing related to football), I haven’t seen it work very often when you bring someone back into the fold that previously quit. The dynamics just tend to change too much. I’m sure whoever the next OC is, Dabo already has him picked out.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Sure, but . .

coach speak implied all year nothing was changing. Ignore that. This move (involving former Clemson QB) was never happening during the season. Its true you don't know until it really happens, but changes have happened and will continue to happen..thats all I can say.... Sucks we were/are a bit slow making these changes b/c we are behind the curve a bit. I expect us to catch up sooner rather than later....

Kinda of torn on this one...

3

Jan 12, 2023, 4:46 PM

On one hand, we sucked on offense this season and a lot of that falls on Streeter. On the other hand, it's not all his fault because he was forced into using DJU at quarterback all season. And on the third hand, Dabo didn't go after a big time coordinator last year when he had the chance, why do we think he will go get one this time. Don't get me wrong I like Jeff Scott, he's one heck of a recruiter. But would he just be another Dabo "yes man". Keep in mind that last time he was here, Brad was also in the background. How much of Jeff's success should actually go to Brad?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Kinda of torn on this one...

2

Jan 12, 2023, 4:51 PM

Its def. not all his fault. It was a bad situation all-around. Dabo carries some of the blame here...JMO. But he's the boss and bosses survive this kinda stuff. When you see Dabo not using a playsheet during the first half and then see him use one in the second half..you know there is a lack of trust/meddling going on.... Again, not all BS fault...but thats JMO...

Re: Kinda of torn on this one...

Streeter didn't need to be our offensive coordinator. That much was obvious. But it falls on Dabo because he (Streeter) never should've been hired to that job in the first place.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Kinda of torn on this one...

If Dabo would have hired an OC from the outside, Streeter would've probably been gone anyway, bc a lot of those coaches want to bring their own people in!!!

Brad was in the background when he was at south Florida. So that’s a mute point. I think he was the real mastermind behind our 2 NC’s on offense. So why wouldn’t he bring him back. Besides he’s probably one of the best recruiters in the country and can help with out with the WR’s the weakest position on the team.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

This doesn't sit right with me.

1

Jan 12, 2023, 5:09 PM

Note: I disagreed with hiring Streeter as the OC in the first place.

To recap:
- Dabo hires an unqualified, inexperienced OC from within the program
- Detractors say this is just so he can have a yes-man and Dabo really controls the offense, which will lead to poor performance

- Poor performance happens

- All year Dabo and Streeter are in synch making purely fictional (insane, really) excuses for DJ
- Dabo hasn't taken responsibility but it his, he's the HC

- Lose bowl game against depleted TN team
- Fans mad
- Claim it was still a great year because 11 wins

- Fire formerly promoted yes man OC

I just don't like it.

However, now that it has happened, it will be good for us if we clean house on offense and get real coaches at each position.

Jan 12, 2023, 5:10 PM

Short of being close enough to one of these people that they are willing to speak freely, we'll never know, but I do wonder which of these was the greatest factor in keeping DJ at the helm all season?

1) A stubborn Dabo who had reasons that we'll never know (promises to Big Dave, hopes of keeping a pipeline open in Cali, who knows what else) for sticking with DJ
2) An advocating Streeter who, as the QB coach, kept pressing and pitching for "his guy" to get another chance, week after week, thinking he'd fixed the problems from the previous week or previous season
3) An awesome practice quarterback in Uiagalelei who lit it up Tuesday-Friday but couldn't dial it in on Saturday
4) The Cade who really wasn't ready and perhaps that couldn't move the ball against our first team D. He had his way against North Carolina (a team that APP STATE put 61 on), but facing a little stiffer competition in Tennessee showed his deficiencies. (No I don't think DJ would have beaten Tennessee for that matter.)

The bright side is that we've moved on from the two biggest impediments (as far as we know) to offensive success. Excited to see who the new OC is. Knowing Dabo, he'll promote Grisham or Spiller. (Kidding)

Jeff Scott is out of football for a year. He did a miserable job recruiting at South Florida BTW. Little easier to recruit at Clemson with all those facilities, resources, money, and championships. I think this was the right move though. Dabo is showing a lot of humility to do this less than a year after he promoted Brandon to OC. He’s essentially admitting that he made a mistake.

This also suggests that Dabo has some of that fire and will to win left that many of us were concerned he had lost.

I really didn't think Dabo would do a mea culpa after 1 year, especially after he gave DJU 2 years to $hit the bed. But it was the right call. I struggled through our games screaming what our offense shouldn't do, only to see Streeter call the most ignorant play available. We'll never know, but I'm betting Shipley gave his opinion to Dabo and it set the wheels in motion. It's downright offensive how little Streeter used the best player on our team this season. Time to reap that harvest, Street.

Accountability!!!!

I feared it was just to placate the loud voices. While its sometimes tough to let go of someone who "tried", it had to done. Too big of a program, too much money riding on things.

As many folks observed during the season and afterward we had a number 1 QB who looked good in 2 freshman games, and then BS apparently broke him, and the rest of our offense. Too many times we heard: "Well, upon further reflection / watching the game or tallied the plays, I should have done X. Way too many X's, like 3 Shipley runs in H1 vs Tenn. Way too many times he largely avoided taking responsibility for his own execution, straight up.

Let's hope Dabo got it right with Garrett.

P.S. To Streeter: get a grad student to check off plays that worked and didn't work during the game, and then take a peak at your success rate DURING THE GAME. Somehow, I think this is all reflected in DJU's decision-making / performance.
