So, basically he chose Tennessee over Clemson because it's different and no one thought he would choose TN? Did anyone else read it that way? Or he just lead everyone on. Seems too big of a decision to just pick a random school.

I watched a little of his tape. In the limited stuff I saw, you could tell he provides really smooth, offensive guard play, but I didn't see him play even a glimpse of defense at all. Hardly even attempted to provide any cover or opposition at all every time down the court. I wonder if the thought that Brownell is known as a "defensive guru" hurt us in this situation? Of course Barnes was also a defense-first coach at Clemson, but not really known for that so much now.
I think this "miss" may hurt us more with not getting a momentum bump with future recruits than his actual results that we would have seen on the court. Every team certainly needs a go-to scorer too though. It stinks to miss out on another quality in-state recruit for sure.

It sounds like he believes in Rick Barnes more than Brad Brownell unfortunately. I say that because you spoke about building a legacy. You could have done that at Clemson just as easily as he could have at Tennessee. Apparently he just didn't like Clemson. At least he didn't like us enough to commit to us.

Send the kid an invoice for this last weekend. Make him pay face value for the ticket to the game, etc.

This is a blow in far as building to being a true ‘player’ in the ACC. Transfers are not gonna keep panning out as good as our current players have turned out. Tough tough news to hear

Right now Brad can get good transfers and marginal top 100 to 150 players. To get to the top 50 type he needs to break thru and get a NBA first round draft pick or two. Case closed...

Why would this be a surprise? Brad Brownell has demonstrated his inability to deliver elite talent for the last 7 years, but delivers on a 6 year job extension for his teams mediocre results on the court. Now that's surprising.

Have you not been paying attention to our recruiting the last few cycles?
We've missed on a few 5 star recruits, but at least we're in the conversation now. We weren't in it for those types of players at any point in our past, with the exception of when Tates Locke was our coach (and he was paying players).

I feel bad for coach Brownell . Landing a recruit of this kid's caliber would have been more than huge . I'm actually surprised it wasn't Duke or Clemson . SEC basketball isn't very good most years , outside of UK and UF . We still have a really nice looking class with some good young players mixing in with our veterans . Too bad he chose elsewhere , but CBB will be fine and will build on our Sweet 16appearance going forward.

Give Brad more time and he'll keep building. This kids statements were quite odd. His opportunity to build his own legacy was wide open at Clemson. It's not like Duke where you are following 100 first round picks. He very much could have been the signature Clemson player. Imo he had a chance to be a headliner on a good team and mysteriou$ly pa$$ed up on it. It's a shame his parents will have to travel 3 times as far to see him play.

Re: Honestly, our talent level is well above Tennessee's at this

Maybe Tennessee lost a lot of talent from their team last year, but it’s hard to ignore the fact that they did beat us at home even though it was a pre-season game.
Honestly, I know that game does not count and perhaps was not indicative of the ability of the two teams, but I would like to think that beating Rick Barnes (pre-season or not) would have been a priority and would have really helped Brad Brownell in the eyes of the Clemson fan base.

It's bad when we lose an in state talent like that, but it is even worse when they can't see through the lies being told to them by coaches that will say or promise them anything to get them committed to their program. And once they learn that, it's to late to change their mind without losing a year of their eligibility!!!

Best of luck to you Josiah James!
BTW, I have always heard from my Auburn, Georgia, and Tennessee friends that the definition of basketball is "a game played between football season and spring practice"... so all you T-netters shouldn't get too upset!
