But their logic for putting Bama #1 is because of what they did in 2014.

The polls have to keep the sec propped up so it can influence the committee when they meet and discuss strength of schedule and all that good stuff. Watch Tennessee be ranked when the AP preseason comes out

This was their opinion even watching us kick Bama to sleep. They are people who refuse to change from what they have been use to. Those types of people are the ones that still used corn cobs after TP was invented. They have to be bleeding raw before they will admit being wrong, and that equals being stupid, and that's putting it softly, like Charmin, Whipple, Whipple, Stupid!!!!!

"Alabama East"... what a joke. Outside of W-L records, Clemson and Alabama's programs are not that similar. 44-16...

Referring to Clemson as "Alabama East" or any other term in referencing Clemson to Alabama is down right insulting. Clemson has its on distinctive identity, unrelated to Alabama or any other team. It's time for every writer with a thread of integrity to recognize this fact. Clemson is the current reigning king of the hill and until some team can defeat us, we're still the king. Paper kings rule only in the mews media and simple minds. Real kings rule on the field of play.

"Based on Dabo's contract its title or bust for the Tigers". Complete BS... Dabo has got the program to where we all expect titles but to make it seem like he'll be run out of town if another title isn't won this year is completely asinine.

I think that's unfair, unhealthy, and unrealistic. I expect us to win the ACC title this year and likely make the playoff, but that's it. And I'm not going to freak out if we have some odd down year in like 2021 where we lose a couple games and miss the playoff.

Scared To Doubt Saban is all
Aug 6, 2019, 7:53 PM
|

They have Stockholm Syndrome and are afraid to say anything bad or to doubt their "abuser" Bama! Even though bama has beaten and battered them into a pulp - they won't do it. They in fact, "love bama"! They can't understand it; even though bama runs rough shot on them and their team - p.s. this is why most SEC fans are so defensive when talking Clemson winning National Championships over their hero - bama! SI writers are afraid old Nick will have a long memory if they were to win and not give them the time of day. Or b/c as stated earlier - b/c of what they did in 2015 these writers just can't "get over there un-imaginable love for adoring the red baby elephants"! Whatever! Much easier to motivate when you aren't #1. With the offensive production we have coming back; this is great. With Coach BV on the sideline - this is great. Not that I think we need it - but just in case - this would likely be the juice needed for that extra rep. That extra attention to detail. These folks clearly are scared to give anyone else credit for fear of Saban's revenge, LOL!

There is nothing more useless than preseason rankings, except for a biased reporter that twists the facts like a crooked lawyer, but dumber. Last I saw Clemson was 28+ points better than Ababala, who walked off the field broken. Instead of fixing, they just started selling feeble excuses, and false claims.

I love that no one will put their name to this ridiculous nonsense. The Clemson write up sounds like it came from a bitter coot.
Virginia Tech is a reach, where is Syracuse? Nebraska? 4-8 Nebraska at 25?
But I guess they win, I did go and look at it.

Nebraska in the top 25 does seem a little presumptuous but
Aug 6, 2019, 1:19 PM

i can at least see some reasons for it. I think Scott Frost is the real deal and they also lost a bunch of close games last year so they were probably more like a 6-6 team than a 4-8 team. They started 0-6 and then played pretty darn well in their final 6 games hanging tough on the road against both Ohio State and Iowa. Adrian Martinez is very promising at QB.

I still can't wrap my head around people putting Texas
Aug 6, 2019, 1:07 PM
|
|
in the top 5. Sure they have Sam Ehlinger and he's pretty darn good, but they have to replace a ton of guys around him. They are dead last in the P5 in Bill Connelly's returning production metric. Add in the inconsistency they've showed on a game-to-game basis thus far during Herman's tenure, and i just don't see any way that this is a top 5 team.
Honestly if i had to choose which is more like, Texas makes the playoff, or Texas finishes behind Iowa State in the Big XII, i would pretty strongly consider the latter.
Last year i couldn't understand WVU getting so much hype - this year it's Texas.

What do the previous five years have to do with THIS year?
Aug 6, 2019, 2:02 PM
|
|
One could argue that the last few years matter some, since current players played on some or all of those teams. But then you'd be left with the conclusion that Clemson has beaten Alabama 2 of the last 3 years, and that really detracts from the argument that Alabama is better.
P.S. I am sure it was meant as a compliment, but I don't want anyone EVER calling us Alabama East. We are far more than Alabama ever will be, academically and how we run our football program.

Agreed, that comparison is a backhanded compliment.
And for he other programs shelling out big dollars on coaching - aTM, Tide, why is it not title or bust for them as well? Where do they get these writers!!?

They just don't care anymore about the truth, the truth to these writers is the band wagon that the majority is on. If nothing drastic happen to what Dabo has put together, we will be that wagon down the road bc Saban will retire before most think, and that will be one of the hardest positions to fill in college FB as we know of Bama yesterday!!! Some good coach will want the job bc they will be loaded with talent. But I honestly think that Dabo is about the only HC that could go into Bama and keep their wheels from falling off, but I honest don't think that money can buy Dabo. It would take something very awful to happen between Dabo and Clemson before he would ever consider leaving Tiger Town bc he and his family is a deep part of Clemson now!!!

Sports Illustrated Is Absolutely Totally Wrong with their conception that Dabo's Clemson program is the Alabama of the East... Just bc Dabo went to Bama and played for Bama, it doesn't mean that they are connected at the navel/Belly Button. The SI Staff or who ever made this ridiculous statement is without a doubt living in their own Little SEC Bubble. They have failed miserably of doing their research and understanding that Dabo is at Clemson bc he he had been fired at Bama, and they refused to employ him as a position coach after the staff that was fired that he was employed with. Bama cut all ties to Dabo with the exception that he went to school and played his college career at Bama but, they wanted nothing to do with Dabo as a FB coach.
I could be off base here but, somebody tell me why would Dabo build a Bama east team at the Clemson Team that gave him his first ever chance as HC, and Alabama had not one thing to do with what Dabo has done at Clemson other than fire him from Bama and forcing him to take employment in a field that he wasn't interested in bc of the way he was treated by Alabama, and bc of that treatment, no one at that time wanted anything to do with Dabo as a FB coach. By that same statement, couldn't they also say that Coach Ford had built a Bama east, no one ever come close to making such a ridiculous statement. And bc of the SEC Bama Bubble they live in, and bc Dabo was "once" a position coach at Bama, they want to place a Bama name tag on Clemson bc Dabo has been so successful at the only FB program that would give Dabo a chance to return to his dream of teaching and coaching young people. Those SI staff members were some of the same accusing Dabo as the Clemson-ing coach. And now bc he has been so very successful and beating Bama in TWO National Championship games, they are calling Clemson the Alabama of the east. Fck SI, we are Clemson only, the same Clemson they help to tag as Clemson-ing, and now Clemson-ing is the best team in the country and Bama had not a D A M N thing to do with it bc Dabo is Clemson-ing Bama 44-16 and all those A S S holes hate us for it. Alabama of the east my F-ing A S S!!! We are Clemson-ing of the east winning NCG and being the only team to ever go 15-0 in the new era of big boy college FB. I would rather have my sisters working in the w h o r e house, than to have a son playing at Bama!!!

Alabama could close the school and cease to exist and some sports reporting "talent" would still rank them number 1. Dabo has not built "Alabam east", Sban is merely Clemson West. SI = Super Irrelevant. Win, period.
