Clemson head coach
Dabo Swinney spoke to the media after practice Wednesday and gave an update on several injuries on the team.
Swinney said that defensive end Xavier Thomas is back in pads and recovering well from his concussion injury. "He was back in pads today and did well," Swinney said. "We are really encouraged with where he is especially after last night and today. The plan is for him to be ready to go and try to hold him but get him back for pregame and all that stuff. We’ll play him if we have to, but really try to hold him. He’s doing good." Thomas has 15 stops, including 4.5 tackles for loss and two sacks this season. Backup defensive tackle Xavier Kelly didn't see any snaps last week against Boston College, but Swinney shared that he could have played last week with an AC joint sprain. They just decided to hold him after the outcome of the game was already decided fairly early on. Swinney said that safety Denzel Johnson is out with an AC/bruised shoulder injury. Johnson has 17 tackles, an interception, and a forced fumble this season. Dabo says Xavier Thomas will be available Saturday. Looked good today but they will hold him if they can. Xavier Kelly was held last week (AC Joint) and it's same deal with him. Denzel Johnson is out
