Swinney and Brownell tabbed as one of nation's top coaching duos

Clemson head football coach Dabo Swinney and men's basketball coach Brad Brownell were tabbed as one of the nation's top college football-basketball coaching duos by Athlon Sports, coming in at No. 12 in the article.

The Clemson football team will be ranked in the preseason top-five for 2018 - if not No. 1 - while Brownell's team is currently ranked 18th in the country and headed toward an NCAA Tournament berth.

The article states:

Swinney further cemented his reputation as one of the game’s elite coaches by leading Clemson to a CFB Playoff spot for the third straight season. He continues to recruit at a very high level and will have his team ranked in the top one or two spots in most preseason polls. Brownell is on the verge of a breakthrough season at Clemson; the Tigers are headed to an NCAA Tournament bid for the first time since 2011, his first season at the school.

Brownell was a guest on ESPN analysts Seth Greenberg and Dan Dakich’s podcast “Courtside” that aired in January, and in the appearance he discussed his friendship with Swinney.

“Since he’s become famous he doesn’t take me on family vacations anymore,” Brownell joked. “But he is a huge hoops guy. He’ll play noon-time ball — he doesn’t pass, but he loves to play noon-time ball. He was a good high school player, he scored a bunch of points, loves basketball.

“We certainly have him meet with occasional recruits. And he comes to a lot of games. He understands it. He brings a lot of football recruits to basketball games. Obviously, he’s built a really incredible program and it’s helped for all of us over here at Clemson.”

Clemson football starts spring practice Wednesday, while the basketball team hosts Florida St. in a key ACC matchup Wednesday night at 9 p.m.
