Clemson to open 2022 season in Mercedes-Benz Stadium |
Updated with change to schedule of Clemson and Georgia Tech opening the 2022 season instead of 2020
Clemson is set to open with Georgia Tech again in the future - but this time in the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in the 2022 season. Stadium's Brett McMurphy reported Tuesday that Georgia Tech was moving its 2020 home game with Clemson to Mercedes-Benz Stadium, but a release from the school later in the day had the matchup on Sept. 5, 2022, in a Labor Day Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game. Dabo Swinney's Tigers haven't played in the venue yet but could get their first taste this December with the Peach Bowl being a College Football Playoff semifinal. The Tigers and Yellow Jackets will open the 2019 season on Thursday, Aug. 29, in Death Valley, debuting the ACC Network. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported Monday that the move is a part of Georgia Tech looking to expand its revenue with expectations of a deficit in the 2020 fiscal year. Georgia Tech’s 2020 home game w/Clemson has been moved to @MBStadium in Atlanta & will be the season opener, sources told @Stadium. Game will be televised on @ESPN or ABC
