Clemson tabbed as AP Playoff pick

by - Staff Writer -

Clemson debuted as No. 2 in the Associated Press Top 25 this week, but the AP's playoff predictions have them finishing No. 1 by season's end come 2019.

AP lead college football writer Ralph D. Russo released his College Football Playoff picks for the Associated Press on Wednesday, matching Clemson as a 3-seed in the Playoff semifinal Orange Bowl versus Michigan as the 2-seed.

Russo sees Clemson then topping Alabama in CFP-matchup round four in Santa Clara in January.

"The Tigers are stacked and freshman quarterback Trevor Lawrence could give the offense an explosiveness it was missing last year," Russo writes.

Four Tigers were named to the AP All-American team this week in first-team selections Clelin Ferrell, Christian Wilkins and Mitch Hyatt, as well as second-teamer Dexter Lawrence.
