Just What the Doctor Ordered

Clemson had lost its last three ACC series coming into this weekend and confidence was becoming an issue. But after Sunday's loss, Monte Lee had a team meeting and told his guys to relax and have fun again. The Tigers had fun Monday afternoon when they beat Florida State to take the series.

The win Monday and the series was much needed. But perhaps the biggest news to come out of the series was the way Pat Krall handled Seminole hitters. Now the question becomes what will Krall's role be moving forward?

On my radio show, we have had discussions about moving Krall to the starting rotation. He proved last night he can go seven innings. He shut down the Noles and limited them to just three hits and one walk while striking out eight.

Krall threw 85 pitches in his seven innings and answered another question about his stamina. In his career at Temple and Clemson, Krall has never started a game, but I believe it is time now for him to take over a spot in the weekend rotation. This could be the spark the staff has needed.

Clemson improved to 28-15 with the win. This kept the Tigers in the top ten in the RPI and helped improve their spot in the ACC standings and their NCAA resume.

The Tigers have 13 regular season games remaining including seven home games and six road contests. Furman visits Wednesday night and is currently 131 in the RPI. This weekend NC State comes to Tigertown and is eight in the RPI. Next week Clemson hosts Charleston for a two-game set on Tuesday and Wednesday. The Cougars are 74th in the RPI. Next weekend Clemson visits 126th-ranked Georgia Southern for a three-game set. Charleston Southern will visit for a single game and is ranked 258 in the RPI. Clemson ends the regular season with a three-game set at Notre Dame, who is 68th in the RPI.

If Krall moves to the rotation, I can see this team getting a boost and an injection of energy. Is 10-3 in the final 13 regular season a possibility? Would 38-18 be good enough to host a regional?

Monday's win and the series win may be exactly what this team needed. Now let's see if these guys can build on this momentum.
